Undokai: Big sports day at Niji-Iro Elementary!
This is the image for the news article titled Undokai: Big sports day at Niji-Iro Elementary! It was a beautiful day for a Undokai! A sports day, unlike any other!

Students, staff and parents at Niji-Iro Japanese Immersion Elementary School recently spent the day enjoying several sporting activities in an arena-like atmosphere.

The difference between a Undokai and a typical Field Day is that the audience surrounds the event field, in sort of a stadium spectator formation, and they cheer on each race with enthusiasm!

"Undokai is modeled after the traditional Japanese elementary school, Undoukai," said Lawrence DeLuca, lead administrator at Niji-Iro. "Every year, kids all over Japan take part in this kind of sports day."

Students were divided into the Red Team and the White Team and competed by grade level in the various events. They had a blast with races, obstacle courses, a scavenger hunt race, tug-o-war and much more!
